The Sandy Bay/Taroona Parish has a very active St Vincent de Paul Society Conference (branch). Support is given to those in need within the Battery Point, Dynnyrne, Mt Nelson, South Hobart, Sandy Bay and Taroona areas. Assistance can be in many forms, on a needs basis, including food vouchers/parcels, clothing, furniture, general household goods, counselling re financial management and help with Aurora and Telstra costs.
The Conference meets every second Monday at 1.30 pm for approximately one hour at the Parish Centre meeting room. At these meetings the visits to those in need are arranged and reports on the previous fortnight’s activities are discussed. The visits are scheduled for Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons. Each visit is carried out by two members.
Membership of the Conference is open to both female and male and new members are most welcome. The structure of the Conference activities is not permanent, it can be varied to enable visits etc to be undertaken at times that are suitable for the members.
If you are interested in joining the Conference or you would like to learn more about it, please feel free to contact the Parish Secretary, Claire Manthorpe, on 6224 1423, and she will provide you with Conference members’ contact details.
